JAMB CUT-OFF..what about it ?

https://www.channelstv.com/?p=271873

The first time I saw the news about jamb cut-off being 120, I was so shocked as if I had stepped on a high tension naked wire. Hey that is a bit of an exaggeration but truth be told, I was really flabbergasted. No offence to our OP’s at nairaland though, if I had seen it over there, I would have thought it was some kind a joke by a faggot high on cheap drugs like a friend of mine would say.
Jamb cut-off as incredibly low as 120? Well in the eve of such ridiculous proclamation by Jamb, serious questions arise. Questions such as:

1. Is it part of the change we are to expect from this administration?

2. Could it be right for an examination body to conclude that a student who have scored less than 30% of the total score is worthy of admission?

3. Could it be the right approach to making tertiary education available to all? Even to the unfit ?

4. Someone said Jamb wants to give a fair chance to all, that a post jamb examination will now be conducted, how further inconsistent can the government be?

We want your take on all this. Your opinions matter.

Base on Love for Education.

I am personally not a fan of reality TV shows but I know a couple of them by name, Gulder Ultimate Search, Nigeria Idol, Big Brother Niger e.t.c. Please is there a show known as Nigeria Got Talents? Forgive my ignorance, I am just not into all these shows.

I did not really know that Big Brother Niger was ongoing not until last weekend when I started to hear pararazi stories about it’s grand finale. Then it ended and a participant known as Efe won based on logistics. The reward? 25 million Naira and a SUV car.  Quite a juicy reward! I don’t know the rewards of other entertainment shows but I do know that they are all heavy ones. These rewards serve to glorify and gratify entertainment. Good ones for the investors in these show. Nice one.
But the Sad thing is that partakers in Competitions related to educational and academic performances do not enjoy this kind of rewards. All we hear is in the thousands range. Is it that education is not important as entertainment? Or is that it is  easier to succeed in education than it is in entertainment ? Could it be that investors do not gain as much in education as they do in entertainment? All these questions beg answers and I will be glad to hear them.
Regardless of the answers to those questions, I am of the opinion that performers in the academic world deserve good rewards too. The famous Ben Carson feel these way too. It was part of his book ” Think Big “. Let us glorify education too!  Let us gratify it too!

The Law of Attraction- it works a lot.

It has been a long time since I came across this law on the pages of a book. I have actually forgotten the title of the book but I can’t possibly forget it’s content. I have also seen it on video in one documentary entitled “The secret”.

I have no doubt of the authenticity of that law just that I have not seen it worked the way it worked last night. So I was hanging out with a friend in a bar last night discussing about Life in general. We were sharing ideas, events, plans and all of that.

But something was missing, there were no drinks on the table. There had to be. The only problem was that this was not part of the week’s budget. So how do I put in this on an already thinning resources? All these were bothering on my mind as I discussed with my friend. I was deciding for and against buying a drink.

Just when I was about making a decision to buy, I received a beckon from the table opposite me. The man who beckoned at me had a business proposal for me. He probably have heard about what I do from his girlfriend just beside him. We talked small on what he wanted and exchanged contacts. As a way of starting what was to be a relationship, he offered to get a drink for my friend and I, Just what I have wanted and attracted! It was not until then that I remembered the law of attraction.

It had worked just the way the book and video said it would! I strongly believe that “As a man thinketh, so he is!”

How can you benefit from this revelation? It is really simple. Just what do you want out of your education? Get the answer to that question. Visualize yourself getting that which you so much want from your education. Set concrete plans to get that and make a resolve not to back off until you reach your destination. It is that simple. Do this and you can attract and achieve almost anything with your education!

IS POSITIONING STILL RELEVANT IN THE GRADING OF STUDENT’S PERFORMANCE?

When I was but a boy, I remember very vividly  the days of my primary and secondary school education. I remember the times when I will prepare for exams for the sole reason that I want to come up first in class. I remembered so well my seemingly endless cries because of falling down the positioning order. I remember very good the day I cried because a gang of teachers scolded me for looking down on others who were below me when we saw our positions at the end of the term. I remember how badly I felt the day I failed my class by coming 2nd in a quiz contest. Ehn Ehn, I remember the needless drama between the smart ones of my classes the first week of the term because of last terms grades.

So numerous are those memories of the times when positions used to matter to we students. All of a sudden, our treasured battle line was taken from us. The positioning system was said to be outdated and abolished. The reasons for this, I don’t still know until now. But I do know that the positioning system had thrills. Students do feel the need to do better when they are graded that way. It is a pity that this system is considered obsolete.

But I am an Open-minded person, I would like to listen to people who have an opinion to share.

Please is the positioning system no longer relevant in the grading of students?

If so, why?
Thanks as you share your view.
